Tobi does not work

2/17/2008 - Jen of Ontario, Canada writes:

I just purchased the Tobi today from []. Thank god that I could return this product because it only works on certain materials. The Tobi also leaks and is not stable. The steam does not go through the clothing as well as it does not wrinkle free the shirts. Please do not purchase this.

AVOID AVOID AVOID

2/17/2008 - John of Ontario, Canada writes:

Utter waste of money. Fairly useful for T-shirts, but useless on dress shirts, pants, or anything with sleeves and cuffs. It took well over 10 minutes, using every possible method, to get a cotton dress shirt into acceptable condition -- and even then, an iron would have done better in less time. Also, I will dearly miss the skin from my fingers after trying to do the sleeves and cuffs. The machine is just badly designed -- the hanger is just the right height if you're a hobbit and useless for anyone taller, but hang the clothing any higher and the hose doesn't reach. Take it off the base and good luck working the shoulder strap or keeping it from tipping and spilling water all over your floor. The hose crimps, blocking the flow of steam, if do you anything but it keep it stretched to the absolute maximum. Before you ask -- yes, I did read the instructions and yes, it's clearly not an iron. I wouldn't complain about that if the whole point of the product, as stated on the box about half a dozen times, was to REPLACE YOUR IRON. Crap, multiplied by crap.

Wish I found this site first do not buy a Tobi

2/16/2008 - Helen of New York, USA writes:

I ordered this product after seeing the product on TV as I was ironing drapes! They sent 2 instead of 1 the free shipping turned out to be a company called Free shipping that charged over $100.00 to my credit card account this $119.00 product turned out to be a $330.00 nightmare. It also is not performing as it does on TV, it leaks, gets to HOT in the tubing and leaves wrinkles so what did I get a headache, and body aches trying to get the wrinkles out of the drapery.

The steamer work well however, the customer service is bad. I have been waiting since November 26th, 2007 for a water tank for my unit. I am calling every week and being told it is on it way. After almost 3 months of waiting now I am being told it is on back order again.

please dont buy ( save your money)

2/4/2008 - Neil of Michigan, USA writes:

Horrible experience . Buying tobi has been a big mistake . As some people explained its not an iron , but a steamer ... So it does not replace ur iron ! Also its time consuming and very painful. The cord for the steamer is short and u can get a great steamer for a lot less money at sears. Also I didn't know websites existed where u cud check out reviews . So if u read this and still buy it ... Ur really wasting ur money

Very Pleased with Tobi

2/3/2008 - Annette of Florida, USA writes:

I was very worried because I found this website after I ordered my Tobi. Once it arrived I let it sit in the box for several days because I just knew after reading the other reviews that I was going to end up aggravated. Once I opened it, I found it very easy to assemble and use. I skimmed the manual to ensure I didn’t electrocute myself and then off I went. The steamer starts to work right away after being turned on. I waited for a few minutes to ensure it was steaming at full power. In my first test I tried corduroy pants, blazer, cargo shorts, t-shirt, my daughter’s polyester dress up outfit, and a sweater. I was very happy to discover that it worked just fine! My only comment is that my clothes felt a little damp after steaming, but that could be because I was a little over zealous and steamed longer than necessary. I honestly don’t understand how this product received such bad reviews. The only negative comment I have is that I paid for expedited shipping and they shipped it via the Postal Service – I don’t call that expedited!

Don't be a sucker!!!

1/31/2008 - Shelli of Georgia, USA writes:

It's suppose to steam wrinkles out - I took a cotton button down shirt, one of the hardest to remove wrinkles & iron, thinking if it would work on a cotton shirt, it would work on anything. WRONG! Doesn't steam out wrinkles as the infomercial implies - my other complaint is that I did not want the extended 3-yr warranty but I was charged for it. That in itself mad me mad so I packaged it back up and mailed it back 1/25/08. I am concerned now about how long it will take for me to get refunded, after reading the reviews. I have ordered other infomercial products that I loved so this is not the first and probably won't be the last but this does not do all that the infomercial claims!!!!

It works like it says

1/30/2008 - Paula of Michigan, USA writes:

I got my Tobi yesterday, about two weeks after ordering, which was about what they said I should expect. I thought the instruction manual was clear and simple, plus they also sent an instructional video. I had a little trouble with the extension pole until I unscrewed the coupling fitting entirely to insert the pole. I have filtered water in the house and I used that. The first thing I tried was a wool jacket and it took the wrinkles right out. Keep in mind that this is not ironing and requires learning a new technique, but I did not get any burns - can't say that about learning to iron years ago! I tried it on a 100% cotton shirt that I hate to iron and it came out great. There was a little water spotting on the shirt, but it dried fine - and my steam iron spits, too. I tried it on some cotton shorts to see if I could get a crease and I did, but not as sharp as a steam iron. My unit came with what they called a "protective shield" on the hose (just a loose fabric cover)and I didn't have any problem with heat from the hose. My biggest surprise was the shipping and handling charge - $43! I'm keeping it.

No problems there

1/26/2008 - Mark of Ontario, Canada writes:

Well I must say that after reading your adventures with the Tobi, I was not looking forward in receiving the two I had ordered. I live in the Laurentian Valley and work in Ottawa. Thus the reason for ordering two. I ordered them on Saturday and on Sunday, left for a business trip. When I arrived home on Friday, the box was waiting for me at home. Point to note is that I did not take the express delivery. I asked my wife when it had arrived and she said it had arrived on Tuesday. 3 days delivery (full points there). Next was the set up. Pretty straight forward and it was done in about 4 minutes. I turned it on after filling the container with water, and in about 30 seconds, steam started coming out of the hose. I had a wrinkled t-shirt and it took off the wrinkles quite well. I tried it on a suit jacket, no problems there. I even tried it on my daughter’s jeans and again no problems there. I tried the travel steamer and it worked fine. At the house in Ottawa, I set up the other one and it also worked fine. I now use it everyday on my shirts and pants. Yes I agree, the hose was a bit stiff, but there is a reason for that. It’s to sure make sure it doesn’t kink (like a central vac hose). What I did was turn it on and unraveled the hose as it got warm and more flexible….no problems there. For those who burnt themselves, I’m terribly sorry, however, I don’t think the company could have put any more warning stickers and tags on the unit. There were some everywhere. Steam is hot! Grant it, it is not as big as the ones you see in tailor shops or some hotels, but it is transportable and small enough to find a spot to store it away when not in use. I have used all three units for about two weeks now and find nothing negative to say. I’m leaving again on another business trip tomorrow and will pack the travel unit as a must have.

Tobi stinks at removing odors

1/25/2008 - Raven of Maryland, USA writes:

I was attracted to the Tobi for the ease of use and odor removal claimed. For starters, the directions made no sense; the entire booklet is extremely poorly labeled and written. The portable shoulder strap design is unintelligible and therefore unusable. Once set up, it took over an hour to steam one wool blend jacket and the wrinkles came back. Also you have to pay for distilled water to fill up the tank and then discard it all after every use. At a dollar a gallon, that is not cost free. They claim that the Tobi is great at removing odors- I thought it would be better than a dry cleaner and this really got me to buy it. Specifically, regular underarm odor is usually the main reason for getting suit jackets to the dry cleaner. I am disappointed to report that the Tobi has not removed underarm odor on the five garments I used it on. It took really long and also got my clothes damp. The jackets still stink do not have that fresh look I expect after cleaning and now I have to pay for a drycleaner on top of the Tobi, electric bill for using it and bottles of distilled water. Also the lint attachment came apart the first time I tried it. The "customer service" number put me right onto a musac hold for 32 minutes before I finally hung up. The number on the receipt put me on the same hold. I was excited about this machine as a cleaning solution , but now I am going for a Rowena steam iron. My friends have one and it rocks. I only hope I can get a real person on the customer service line before I use up all of my cell phone minutes.

Tobi Steamer

1/25/2008 - Cindy of California, USA writes:

The Tobi is nothing like the infomercial. I was extremely disappointed. Even more disappointing is the fact that they deducted the full amount instead of 3 easy payments, which I requested. More disturbing than that is trying to get a refund. I returned it 12/31. It was received 3 days later. I still don't have my refund inspite of numerous calls to Tobi and promises of 5-10 days. Oh, and just try to get through to them - wait time is almost always more than 15 minutes. Has anyone been lucky enough to receive a refund - just curious.

CRAP!

1/20/2008 - Anonymous of Ontario, Canada writes:

When you see those beguiling ads for the Tobi steam cleaner, change the channel! It is crap and does NOT remove wrinkles. I am highly suspicious of the positive ratings on this board. I'm thinking they may be Thane employees or Tobi employees. After being duped by this informercial on The Shopping Channel it has soured any confidence I might have had in any product they promote. Buyer beware!

SAME OLD STEAMERS

1/17/2008 - chip of Hawaii, USA writes:

people who like it say read the instructions HAHAHAHAHA!!! I read it, my college professor read it, my nuclear engineer cousin read it. Not only is this product deceiving it plain doesn't do the job it was said to do. Not only is using an steam iron better its faster...what a waste of time any effort.Tobi just doesn't do the right job. Product is poorly made, and it made my carpet wet. Customer service??? what service, they have to many returns so they are very slow in getting your refund. As seen on Tv items never have impressed me so far still waitng for the next great item! never seen it yet.

Tobi DOES NOT WORK

1/15/2008 - Darla of British Columbia, Canada writes:

I just got my Tobi today. The anticipation was killing me & boy, was I ever disappointed. I tried steaming my son's shirt. It would've taken LESS time ironing it. The infomercial is very deceiving. This product is for people who don't care about a few wrinkles or that crisp look. I won't be getting rid of my iron anytime soon. I'm sending my Tobi back tomorrow.

It's a Great Product!! Try giving it a chance!!

1/12/2008 - Melissa of Mississippi, USA writes:

Happy Steaming!!! Yep that is just what it says...steam!! I bought the Tobi and then read the reviews and thought to myself...I have made a wrong decision. I just recieved it a couple of days ago and tried it out to see the disappointment I was going to see. Boy, was I totally wrong!! I love it. Yep, You must read the instructions and no it's not an iron. What are some of you folks wanting, perfection? The infomercial said nothing about perfection.... it said saves time on ironing. For those of you that don't like it, you are not comparing apples to apples. An iron and the steamer are two totally different methods of getting wrinkles out. Take your car for instance... if you go through a car wash to wash your car, it is going to be different than washing it by hand. You should not think you are trying to replace an iron, just making it easier on fabric that does not need creases. What has amazed me on this review site is that most of these people that are complaining can't even half spell.... that makes me think that they did not even read the instruction booklet. Some of the people need to go back to school and learn to read and write and not worry about trying to iron...or should I say STEAM!! After they do...come back to your steamer and give it a second chance.... haven't you ever had a second chance in your life?!!! As far as the shipping... I only got one and got it within a week. My overall review of ordering, shipping and product review was great!! I had no problems whatsoever!! Sorry for you guys and gals that did!! In closing, think about the thought that went in to this product...they would not have spent mega bucks on patenting it if it had not worked!! Maybe some of you can get the discoverer to come out and show you how to work your Tobi!!!! If they did, you would love it!!
