OK - Here's my take on this product. In my case, the knives did come completely sharp and ready to use, so I did like their sharpness. I think one of the secrets to this set is buy the knife block, and DO NOT wash them in the dishwaser. This way your cleaning is done by hand and your knives are not rolling around in some drawer. Would I say they are a great set. No. I think they are a very decent set of knives for the PRICE. I definately think that looking at the construction of them that they would probably rust if you washed them in the diswasher. Overall, Ill give them 3 stars

These knives are actually pretty ok. they will probobly be the last set of knives i will use. But there is one catch. He advertises all 25 pieces but you only need about 6 or 7 of these knives. For example, the bread knife, the carving knife and the saw knife can be thrown away and you can use the showtime knife for everything the other 3 do. Also the garnishing knife is something i never use. You only need 1 paring knife (probably the big one). The sportsman's knife can replace the fillet knife. Unless your a butcher, the chop n' serve can be used as a clever to cut through ribs and other meats. And finally the chef's knife can also be a boning knife since they are both very sharp. Make sure you sharpen the knives because if you don't they will be very dull. So to recap the only knives you need from this set are the showtime, sportsmans, chop n serve, large paring knife, chefs knife, the shears and all the steak knives. I'm not going to lie. These are pretty good knives for cutting up your food. This knife set is worth the $40.

These knives are not bad for the money. I got the two sets with sharpener 3 years ago. They do get dull after time. My chefs knife got dull about a year ago but with the sharpener I was able to keep it relatively sharp. The one thing thats nice is the lifetime warrenty against dulling. I am sending back my shears and my chefs knife and paying $2.50 for the shipping back. They will send me a new set of shears and a new chefs knife. Not bad for a cheap set of knives. If thats what your looking for then these knives are for you. If you want good knives you have to spend a little money. We have a henkel twin pro-s we paid $80 just for the chefs knife....but its our favorite!

My fiance and I purchased these when we moved in together and they absolutely suck. They came to us completely dull; they do not come with a sharpener and therefore that would be an additional cost. We use the steak knives and the paring knife because they are the only ones that will sort of cut something... don't buy them, they suck!

These knives are not dishwasher safe, and we didn't see any message telling us so anywhere on the package. They rusted the very first time we washed them. They are not even all that sharp, and get very dull quickly.

I have owned these for a year. I had purchased the block with it. These have held up well. We cook her constantly, and feel these knives had paid for themeselves several times over. They look as good as the day I recieved them. But we do clean em as we finish using these knives.I would purchase them again if the need arose. STEVE

Cheap set and they screw you on trying to sell you all the extras and shipping increases. You get what you pay for in a good set of knives. [] has better knives at half the price.

the knives are pretty good for the price, i agree with people here that they DO get dull after a while, but what can you expect for a $40 set? the shipping is definitely a ripoff, with all the charges, taxes and stuff, the 39.99 comes to over $100. love the showtime knife for peeling pineapples, the chopping knife is awesome for... well chopping and serving, tomatoes, cucumbers, garlic, parsley, pretty much anything, never used boning knife and saw knife is totally useless, the rest can go either way, so all in all, not a bad set. oh and i don't have dishwasher, so can't comment on that

I love these knives, they work just as I would want them to. Of course they don't cut a hammer but they have cut every food item I try. Not so good on solid frozen, but slightly thawed works great. Cut my finger and nail with ease. Never had any problems with rust, wash them in the dishwasher everyday. Love them, worth every penny!

My husband of 25 years surprised me with this set of knives for Christmas. I had mentioned getting a couple of good knives. I went shopping and came home with none as I did not wish to pay $50 to $100 for a knife, which is what all the "quality" ones cost. I was very surprised when I tried the Showtime knives and am very pleased with the way they wash in the dishwasher. I'll probably not use a few of the fancier ones but I know these will last my lifetime and I can spend my $100 on something I will enjoy!

Well the good stuff first. The blades on the knives are pretty good. I had an easy time sharpening the ones that have straight edged blades. The ones that do not need sharpening are still sharp. The number of knives you get is quite a bit too. I gotta say the price point is not bad at all. Now for the bad. These are not comperable to fine cutlery as said in the comercials. While the blades are good the handle are cheap cheap. Upon further examination you realize they are hallow. I have worked with knives all my life and have never seen that. The sharpener that comes with the set is doesn't work at all. You will also find that you need either a magnetic holder or a knife block wich costs extra. I did find the block is high quality though. Not bad for the price however not the finest in the world .

I watched this informercial for several years and hesitated - not believing the hype to really be true. I finally gave in - went through all the complicated sales pitch schpiel and in the final moment hated all the pressure sales pitch and cancelled the order. I was transfered to a sales manager - who ended up becoming very calm and soothing and then proposed a vast price improvement on the current offer - 25 knife set and wooden block and shipping. I ended up with an offer I could not refuse. I was a little peeved to learn much later that an attractive aluminium case was an alternative to the very large but handsome block, as I have virtually no counter-top space in my small kitchen. And yes, I have used several of the knives frequently. I wished they would ship directly overseas as I would definitely order more as gifts for family members abroad.

These knives are a huge dissapointment. I sell Wusthof and Global and I own both, including Henkles and Cutco. Showtime Ronco knives are not what the ad says they are. I've had them a week and used almost all. Most are useless in comparison with the hand forged 18/10 stainless steel Wusthof and Global. Ronco is NOT dishwasher safe. They rust. It might be stainless, but not 18/10. They are made in china, which means that they are a rip off for what they are worth. The company guarantees they won't dull but the steel will not hold an edge for life, and I guarantee that. My dissapointment went even further when the sportsman knife couldn't even cut a straight vertical line. These knives are dangerous to work with, they rust, and they will in fact become dull.

1. I was disappointed when ordering over the phone at all the other offers they make you wade through before you can finish your order. 2. I like the $13.33 a month payment plan. It takes the sting out of the immediate purchase. 3. Are the knives worth the money?... maybe. Did I use them? You bet. 4. The sharpener that came with the whole set of 40 knives was cheap dollar-store junk. 5. The "Solid Flavor Injector" looked well-made, but I just never needed that kind of tool. So I never used it. 6. I was first disappointed with the quality of the plastic handles of each knife. Very light plastic, and cheap-feeling. Though I never had quality problems with them in the few months we had the set, they seemed thin. Heavier handles would definitely make this set feel like much higher quality knives. 7. Because of the variety of knives, I enjoyed being able to choose a knife that was suited for the task at hand. Sometimes, an average tool that is just right for a task is better than a top-notch tool that is more general-purpose. 8. Steak knives work very well. 9. I was happy with the metal parts of each knife. They are full-tank knives, which is their salvation. I'm sure they'd be crap if they weren't. The thickness of the meat cleaver is nice, and the rest of the knives are appropriately edged... thick and thin when they need to be. 10. Filet knife is nice and long, flexible, and sharp. I actually used it to cut away the foam on a motorcycle seat. 11. I don't know what they are thinking with the non-sale prices on the web for each knife! "This knife normally retails for..." is what they say during the infomercial. But that's a crock. The only people willing to pay that much are the kind of folks who buy beach-front property in kansas. The knives are NOT worth the "regular retail price". but when sold as a set, at discounted price, they MIGHT be worth it. 12. I love the cheese knife. works great. Also a good general purpose knife. 13. chef's knife is nice and weighty. happy with that one too. 14. I liked the fisherman's knife for cutting tomatoes and such. But it did get dull after a little use. And you can't sharpen it because it has those scalloped edges that make it cut things like tomatoes and bread very well. I was disappointed that it was not double-beveled though. 15. Bread knife is nice size and works well. 16. Scissors are chincy, but serviceable for minor tasks. Could do much better buying them separately from another source. 17. Knives come fairly sharp, but the straight-edged ones will need sharpening like normal knives do. If you don't sharpen your knives, don't waste your money on this set, cause they'll be just like your current ones in a couple of months. And I would NOT depend on the included sharpener to do any good sharpening for you. 18. The #1 general use knife that's so famous has the same edge as the bread knife. I did not like it for too many tasks. Slicing with it is nice, till you get to the tip of the blade, which is NOT scalloped. This means it's just a normal knife that dulls and doesn't complete the cut if it is not sharp. I did not use that knife very much. 19. The saw knife is marketed for frozen food, but did not work for me. The meat cleaver did, though. :-) 20. When bought as a set, the knives are cheap and that makes them a possible good choice. If you need a lot of different knives, I think this is a good choice. If you know of a few that you would use the most, I would say wait and get good ones of those and forget this set. But I do think this set might be a good gift for someone just starting out their kitchen. They can see which kinds of knives they like and don't so that they can buy good ones of the ones they use most often. 21. The chop and serve knife that looks like a mini-cleaver is more hype than function in my opinion. The chincy plastic handle is obvious on this one. The blade is thin and only bevelled on one side. I did not manage to make it work well, but maybe I could have practiced more.22. They tried to push the knife block on me when I bought it, but I declined. That was a good decision because if I would have kept them, I would have just wanted to keep half a dozen handy and not take up counter space with a large knife block full of a number of knives I don't use as much. 23. Oh, and the garnishing knife with that neato curved blade is only beveled on ONE side, which makes straight cuts during garnishing difficult for me at least. I was not impressed.

The previous post is correct, as you DO end up paying more than the add says. By the time I moved from one page to another on checkout, an unexplainable extra ten dollars was added to my total. The wooden storage block is about an extra $30 which is recommended by the manufacturer for storage, so it ends up totaling about $100 with that added. On the other hand, I was very surprised by how sharp these knives were! The cleaver was VERY heavy-in a good way-and nicely made. The wooden block, actually, was worth the money since it's very solid and labeled so you know where everything goes and can remember all options you have (this coming from someone used to only having a few cheap knives!) I will admit that I have not researched other brands and am just a normal household cook, not a chef, but so far I have been pleased with the product and impressed at the quality--not to mention the lifetime garauntee! If I had the money, I would buy sets for my family.

the set is average , the price seemed right at $39.95 but by the time you add shipping and then need the block to store them ,again shipping very expensive ,,, you have over $100.00 invested in this average set of knives. I have gotten a set of Sabatier knives ,, much more resoniblely priced and 100% better set. I would not recomend Ronco to anyone for the price you pay.
