Proactiv: A Huge Bummer

I can't describe how amazingly excited I was to try this product. Right when it arrived at my house I rushed in the bathroom to wash my face. That was in early February. Now it's mid May and my face is a complete embarassment to me. I would choose rather to stay inside rather than go out with friends because my face looks horrible. I never miss an application either. Proactiv did not work and it makes me angrier than ever that people get so many wonderful results and I still look like crap after having used it for months. My friend said it took a week to clear her face. It's May, and my face has gotten worse. This product sucks.
More than slightly disappointed

I've been using Proactiv for a few months. I was really excited about getting it because the commercials make it seem great, but it took a really long time for my acne to clear up and when it did, it wasn't that great of a change. I thought I was using it wrong, because it seemed to have worked with everyone else, so I kept using this product for another month. I still broke out, even while using it. I started getting red, itchy rashes around my eyes and jawline. I continued using it and assumed my skin was just dry, but moisturizers didn't help. I stopped and switched to another product that worked marvelously. Thinking I'd have a better result this time, I started Proactiv a day ago. Overnight my face has become red, itchy and blotchy again. I doubt that I'll be using Proactiv again. I was overly optimistic about this product.
Too expensive

I used this product once for about 2 months and it seemed to work, but the cost was way to expensive (about $20.00 a month) for me to keep up with. Also, I tried it again later on and did not get the same results as the first time. I read that Jessica Simpson actually got better results with another product, but went with Proactiv because they pay her to do the infomercials.

I bought Proactiv about a year ago, because I had terrible skin. It took awhile for it to work, but when it did, it work TERRIFIC!! After a few more monthes (and a few more kits) of using it, it stopped working, and my skin went back to how it was (well, not nearly as bad). The other thing is that it is EXTREMELY DRYING, but I have very sensitive skin. If you have dry and/or sensitive skin, you should also order the oil-free moisturizer. However, DO NOT purchase the daily oil control. I bought it and it made me break out and it makes your skin twice as oily than it normaly is. If you need a bad acne, i suggest this product, but in the long run, don't depend on it.
repairing lotion works! System doesn't.

I believe I have now found the right recipe for me. Mild facial wash in morning (I use shiseido), wait ten minutes then apply a hefty dose of proactiv repairing lotion. skip the toner and ten minutes later lightly apply an spf lotion. It's the benzoyl peroxide that's the magic acne killer! The proactiv facial wash is too harsh and the toner a waste of time & money. At night, I skip the final spf lotion application. Fortunately, you can't go immune to bp. Proactiv did one thing right, the repairing lotion is great, but the facial wash and toner is a waste of money.
save your money

Proactiv's marketing was great, but the product was not worth the price. It cleared some of my acne for a couple of days, but if I missed one application, the acne was back with a vengeance. You become heavily dependent on it. In addition, the way shipped the product was off. The products you needed are shipped a week after you run out of the previous pack.

I'm 26 and started getting major acne around age 20. Since then, I've used all sorts of products. I've tried ProActive 3 different times (for several months each), each time hoping I missed something before. It never helped. If anything, it just made my skin drier and redder. Never even began to clear up my acne; in fact, cystic acne seemed to become a bigger problem. I believe this can probably help some people, but there is no one treatment that will help all acne sufferers across the board. Unfortunately, even with the help of dermatologists, I'm still trying to find what will work for me.
Finally a product that works!

I had beautiful skin till I was 27, I started with occasional breakouts, but soon they frequent. I'm a "pimple popper" so I started to get scabs and now scars. I have tried changing cleansers, moisturizers, makeup, even my pillowcases! NOTHING helped! I finally tried proactive, after 3 years of embarrasement, and at first was disappointed, and I was at my 5th week of using it, thinking I was going to return it for the refund, when my skin was totally clear! I'm so glad I stuck to it for the time they suggested, and I will not use anything else now! I HIGHLY recommend this product!

I used Proactive 6 years ago. I saw a difference the very first time I used it. I'd suffered severe trama to my skin by using a prescription product incorrectly, prior to buying Proactive. I watched the infomercial late one night with tears in my eyes, this was before Venessa Williams joined the cmmercials. I'm 26 now and the only reason I don't use the product now is because I can not afford it. IT REALLY WORKS!! My skin felt&looked healthier the 1st time I used it, and my mother noticed it too. DOWNSIDES: pimples don't clear up immediately, once you start using it your skin goes through "withdrawl" once you stop using it, you get little bottles (the pictures and tv make the quantity look bigger than it really is). But you get what you pay for, and its worth the $45 a month, even if you do it for only a year like I did.

If you have bad skin, this product is definetly for you. I had the worst skin before I used this product. The only flaw is that it makes your skin dry before you get used to it, but that's probably becuse I have very sensitive skin.

I was so excited to receive the product because it seems like it works for everyone.Well not me!!!! I was using the product for 2 months and my skin became so dry and extra shiny. I used the product twice a day then reduced it to once a day after 2 weeks because I started to notice more dryness. The final straw was when my face started to get irritated and feel sensitive. I believe the products may work for some people but only people who can deal with harsh products on their skin.

I used this product for a little less than two months. At first I was using twice a day (as recommended). While it did stop my breakouts, once I saw how dry my skin was getting, I cut down to once a day, then once every other day. My skin continued to get drier and drier (I have never had sensitive skin) - especially in certain areas. It has been almost 3 months since the last time I used it and while I haven't borken out too badly, I still have dry, crusty patches on my face. It is awful!
May work for others but not for me

I bought this product about 3 months ago. I bought Proactiv to help treat mostly blackheads since I had very few pimples. Well, at first, the product worked GREAT! My blackheads were gone and I had no more breakouts except an occasional pimple here and there. However, after about a month of using it, I broke out EVERYWHERE. My blackheads were still gone, but I got pimples everywhere. I kept using the product and my acne not only got worse, it got very red. I was so embarrasses when I had to go to work with my hair pulled out of my face since it irritated my red, overdryed out skin. I no longer use the poduct and now I break out worse then I ever did before. This same thing happened to a co-worker also when she used Proactiv. I do not recommend this product to anyone.

I am 28 & have used this product for 6 years now. It worked amazingly for the first 2-3 years. Then it started giving me little bumps on my face in place of the acne. I stopped using it for about 1 year and was treated by a dermatologist. But the doctor could never help me like the proactive did. SO I'm back on the proactive BUT, I only use get and use the wash. It's working great still!

I have used this since Aug. with really good results. After pregnancy could not seem to get my skin to clear up no matter what I tried. I decided to use this and after several weeks had no more break outs. My pores have visibly reduced in size as well. It did take several weeks for me to notice a difference, but have had only a one or two blemishes since then. One drawback is dryness, but a good moisturizer can solve that problem easily.

This product works. Initially, you will see an increase in acne (as written in the material), but with continued use, it reduced my break outs and painful acne. I never experience drying and burning.

This product did not work for me. I had an adult onset of acne at about age 25. I tried this product and it seemed to start to clear up my acne, but then it stopped working. It did continue to dry my skin out and burn my skin. I have since found products directed toward adult acne that works much better. I am not sure if I am allowed to name other products that worked for me--- (Dr Perricone products and Emprizone Gel from Mannatech-have worked wonders).
Worth the Money

I was skeptical before I tried this product, especially since this was the second time around for me. Years earlier, I "tried" Pro-activ and it didn't work for me. Since then I tried everything to "cure" my severe acne including antibiotics and accutane (which I recommend against because of the side effects). This time around I used Pro-activ two times a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Within a few weeks my whiteheads (pimples) started drying up and my skin actually started glowing. I brought a pimple extractor (not the technical name but this is the funny looking tool that is used by the dermatologist but can now be purchased at the drug store) and used that in conjunction with the Pro-activ to remove the dried up pimples without scarring my face. For the first time since my early teens I went to my physician and was not diagonsed with acne. My physician commented on how good my skin looked and when I told her I was using Pro-activ she was not suprised. Now I'm by no means "cured" of acne. There is no such thing yet. But my acne is controlled and my skin looks better than ever. I highly recommend this product but with the caveat that the more consistently you use this product the better. This is because its not a cure, its a treatment. However, I must say that I occasionly miss treatments and my skin still looks great, especially compared to its previous state.
Worked when used properly

The first time I tried Proactiv it did not work for me. A few years later I was reading about it and realized I wasn't using it properly. I wasn't removing my makeup first and I wasn't washing for 1 to 2 minutes. I purchased it again and it worked amazing well. I have been using it for several years. I used to use the whole system daily but now use the face wash occasionaly but I use the repairing lotion twice a day. I still get occasional small pimples but they go away quickly and I don't mind them at all compared to how my skin used to be. My family comments often on how nice my skin looks. My boyfriend who always had nice skin recently had a huge breakout on his forhead. He started using my Proactiv and it went away in about 3 weeks and hasn't returned. He still uses the repairing lotion and the astringent each day and the face wash occasionally. Have clear skin has really changed my life and my confidence, I would recommend that anyone try Proactiv becuase it did work for me. Just make sure that you are using it properly. Good luck!

I have been using Pro-Active for over five years. I don't like infomercials. However, I am so glad I tried Pro-Activ. My 32 year old daughter uses it too and keeps her skin flawless. I am 56 years old and finally enjoy clear skin. If you have very sensitive skins don't use it twice a day - maybe once a day, or every other day.
