8-lb Vacuum

6/12/2008 - Judith Woo of Oregon, USA writes:

I've owned mine for about 4-5 years and am very pleased with it. I have a two story house and find it easy to carry upstairs. I have 4 cats and it gets up the fur from the rugs. Totally satisfied.

ONLY ONE THAT WORKS FOE 8 lb.

6/4/2008 - TheFlame of PA, USA writes:

5/20/2008 - Nancy of California, United States writes: "It needs to pick up the dirt UNDER the carpet as well" You have got to be kidding, to expect an 8 lb. vacuum to perform as well as a 22+ unit, the Oreck XL, is a light and powerful unit, AND as said on the other post, "I swear the thing's like trying to push a brick along the carpet." is what to expect from heavy units. YOUSE YOUR COMMON SENCE ON THIS. Finally Carpets are FILTHY, DIRTY, DISGUSTING THINGS, that never come clean the are only good for two types of people 1, for nice for rich people that have them professionally cleaned, and DO replace them often, and 2, for for lazy dirty people that only want to clean every couple weeks and think a carpet is a nice clean place to sit on.

Beware..surface dirt only

5/20/2008 - Nancy of California, United States writes:

Just so you all know, a good vacuum doesn't just pick up the surface dirt. It needs to pick up the dirt UNDER the carpet as well. If dirt accumulates under the carpet and down into the pad(which it does) it shortens the life of your carpet, in turn causing stains to be harder to remove. Not as big of a deal if you rent, but if you own, you need to think about the long term cost of spending a little more on a vacuum vs. carpet. Trust me on this. Oh, and by the way, the bowling ball trick is just that-a trick. It can be done with any vacuum. It's physics.

sent it back

4/13/2008 - charlotte of nc, usa writes:

UPDATE: I sent the vacuum cleaner back for several reasons: 1)The handle was too tall to fit in my closet and wasn't adjustable. 2) You also need additional storage room for the canister vacuum. 3) Going from hardwood to carpet was difficult. All in all, the vacuum was too expensive for the quality of the simply made product. My old vacuum had more bells, buttons, and whistles for under $150. I love the free iron, but is is heavy. Everyone at Oreck was very pleasant and professional when I called because they had not put the credit back on my card.

Not too bad, but not great

1/18/2008 - Darren of North Carolina, USA writes:

I was given one of these as a gift to use once I move out on my own. I always recall seeing the infomercials and thought one of these would be a much better choice over the alternatives. All in all, I'm pleased with it. The vacuum is light and feels quite durable. Obviously it's very basic with no adjustments, no attachments, or anything of the sort. However, it does seem to do a pretty fair job cleaning the floor. The ups: * Does a good job for it's size/weight * Quite easy to maneuver. Now for the downs: * The head is bulky, so it can be difficult to get under some furniture. * My particular model uses type CC bags, which can be a bit more difficult to find than some others * There's no emergency shut-off if the roller gets snagged Over all, I'm happy with it. I will say I think my parents Bissell does a better job, but I swear the thing's like trying to push a brick along the carpet. Plus the coasters have broken and the brush roller randomly locked up. It also has a very cheap feel to it, unlike the Oreck.

Disappointment

7/30/2007 - Lynn of Texas, USA writes:

Bought the Oreck. It was great to start with, then started to loose its oomph. After two years the motor died and it would have cost as much to fix as buy another. Ther vacuum cleaner store owner said to pass on any more Orecks. Got the cordless iron as a "gift." It was a total washout.

Love It

7/8/2007 - Deanna of Kansas, USA writes:

I have cleaned many houses with my Oreck. I've had many different brand name sweepers. If you want something that is good at suction and light weight, this is it. I've had mine since '94' and it's still going stong. It's great if you want a good light weight sweeper. It is true tho, it's not that good at corners or against the wall.

I have two oreck XL vacumes. i am very happy with both. they are light and easy to move around the floor. i have had no problems except a grinding noise when wedged into corners.
