Im in 6th grade. Im doing a report on gorillas. I bought the stuff to make a model of the animal, it needed to be about the size of a 6th graders hand. it took forever. The stuff fell apart, it crumbled, it stuck to your hands, and the model parts (arms, body, head, legs) wouldn't stick together. I had to to the project with it laying on the table, with the pieces next to each other, I couldn't pick it up because nothing stayed together, and it would look like a gorilla with its arms and legs cut off. DONT BUY IT

I purchased Moon Sand for my daughter to use for her Social Studies project. She had to build a castle! Moon Sand was the best route I could have ever taken.. it was not messy at all. I used newspaper to protect my table and when we were all done, all I had to do was roll the newspaper up and throw it away! I thought Moon Sand was great, I loved the fact that you didn't have to use water!! It worked well for us and I would use it again! By the way, the castle was beautiful!!

i bought this for my kids and we ALL got involved in playing with it. i put a sheet down on the floor and we had a blast playing with it. love the feel of it our hands. now my 21 yr old wants some of it for her birthday, lol. i also had no problem getting it out of the carpet, because i got it up right then and there, instead of waiting for someone to step on it.

My kids 3 and 5 got this for Easter, and we were all excited to try it. First, we thought it would hold together better, but after molding it would crumble very easily, frustrating the kids. On the box they show neatly molded animals in one color on top of a different color sand base. That can't happen because the the stuff just crumbles and the colors mix. Once that happens there is no way to separate the them. Also make sure to use containers with very high sides because it easily falls out of containers with lower ones. Lastly, if your kids play with a lot, don't worry becaues it will not last long!! Unlike Play Doh, you lose a portion to the floor, the kids' hands and clothing that cannot be put back in the box. Trust me, I'm not upset over the loss, just the time I wasted cleaning it up.

Ok, I'm 18 years old and my mom always gets me weird, gag gifts for christmas. This happened to be one of them. I have to say, It's not the best thing. I like play-doh so much more. It's less of a mess to clean up in case you drop it on the floor. It sticks to your hands, it crumples when it's held. It is however fun. I like it, I just wish it wasn't so messy.

My kids got some moon sand for Christmas. I heard that it could be messy, so I put some plastic over the kitchen table. My 6 year old son will play with it for hours at a time, and my 8 and 2 year old daughters enjoy playing with it also. The mess really is no worse than with painting or play-dough. With a little planning and supervision (and no carpeting in the kitchen), it cleans up very easily.

I got this for my son and my sister's son. She called and Thanks alot for the huge mess! When I let my son get it out, we felt the same. Very messy and hard to keep the colors seprate. I want my money back.

My 5yr old wanted this stuff sooooo much that we decided to get him it for christmas. the box specifically says that it will not stick to or stain ANY surface. so I let him play with it on the kitchen table and we have carpet. this stuff just does not hold together like it claims to and making the molds stick together for any length of time is dang near impossible. there's almost no way to keep the colors separate, and just way toooo messy! clean up took forever as i had to litterally get on my hands and knees with the vaccum hose and it still has never come completely out! I guess it would be an ok thing to play with outside, but if it's the least bit windy i'm sure it will blow all over the place and any moon sand that falls on the ground or floor or carpet is less moon sand in the kit, and it's expensive enough to buy in the first place. definitely not worth it!!

I got this product for my son. My carpet it is beige, they claim that will not stain the carpet but now I have a big green stain in my carpet and it doesn't came out with any carpet cleaner that I have. Be aware!

Might as well buy a large plastic container and put sand in it, add water, and voila. It's impossible for the kids to keep the colors separate, so you get a muddy green color instead of brown like at the beach. This is a huge step up from Floam, which is the stickiest mess ever, but if you don't want sand tracked in a 50' radius (my youngest is 7), then don't bring this in your house. Is it fun? Sure, so is a mud pit to kids. Figured I'd try to keep it in the kithen; sand in food not fun; hard to get it all as it's a finer granule than regular sand.

I bought this for my 4 year-old son thinking that since he likes Play-doh and he likes the beach he would like playing with this. It's great stuff. He puts his action figures in it, his animals, his cars and trucks, and he entertains himself for an hour sometimes. I like to play with him too and build things in the moon sand (bunkers for his soldiers, fences for his animals, ramps for his cars, etc). It molds nicely although the ramps do fall apart if he is a little too forceful with his cars. The mess was pretty bad in the house, but I moved it out to the patio and it is much better. I tend to my plants while he plays nearby. Now that I know what I am dealing with though, I am not worried about having it back in the house on the next rainy day. Overall it is good, creative fun for him.

I bought Moon Sand thinking it would be fun for my kids to play with, and nice for me because it was mess-free. Both kids (age 8 and 4) enjoy molding shapes out of the Moon Sand, but my 8 year old boy loses interest quickly, and my 4 year old girl has trouble keeping it on the table. It gets all over the floor, then it gets stepped on and dragged all around the house. It is not hard to sweep up the sand, if you don't mind sweeping. If you can accept sand on your floor, or if your children can play carefully with it, then Moon Sand can be fun. But if you don't enjoy beach sand all over your home, and your kids are messy, then don't ever ever bring this product into your home.

My 5 year old twins received moon sand as a gift and it is horrible. My son got it on the carpet and I spent 25 minutes trying to vacuum it up, but it's still on the carpet. I think this product is a piece of junk and clean-up is not easy! Now I have to have my carpet professionally cleaned.

Some people said it’s a big mess, and it is a bit, but I just told the kids to play with it outside, problem solved. One time they did use it indoors and some spilt on the carpet but it vacuumed up pretty easy. I think parents need to let their kids get messy- in one place of course- at the kitchen table or a designated place. Kids should be kids and explore with these "messy" tactile toys. And it's all about fun- so sweep it up and be glad your children are happy.

Yuck. My son received this as a gift. I was 8 months pregnant and she swore it would not be a mess!!! Needless to say, I spent a considerable amount of time vacuuming up after, more time cleaning than playing. We put it away and my son has since forgotten about it.

My son has seen the moon sand commercial a few times and express interest in it, so when I saw it a [] for $4 I thought we would give it a try. Well thank god we bought it from a store vs buying the package from TV because moon sand is not very much fun, compared to PlayDough and Floam, moon sand is the equivalant of digging in wet beach sand (which i must admit my 3yo enjoys) and its properties at home are nothing like what you see them doing on TV. Save yourself some money and buy some food coloring and gett some sand from the yard.

If you buy a large amount of this and keep it in a mini sandbox, of the kind you can buy for it, then it can be fun for sandcastle-type building. But the ads imply that it's also a sort of alternative to play-doh. It is not, in fact is almost useless in this regard. The sand does not clump together sufficiently for modelling shapes. It works much like wet sand, except that it doesn't dry out. Just like damp sand, if you try to play with it like clay, it falls apart into tiny bits and makes a huge mess. Again, GREAT for making structures like you would in a damp sandbox, IF you buy a large amount of it. Useless as a small packet bought for making stuff like playdough.
