Has its merits

5/14/2008 - Anonymous of FL, USA writes:

I own 3 Ionic Breezes, clean them as recommended. But then they all started making noise even after reinserting the cleaned, dried blades. Sooo, I started thinking, one of them is reconditioned... what does that mean? All I know is, the "reconditioned" one was clean as new on the outside ! How did they get it soooo clean? Then, I tried what no sane person with any brains would not do, I hosed them off and out, cleaning the outside with a brush ! I then let them dry for two wks on my work bench, turning them upside down and every which way over that time span. When I was sure they were completely dry, I dared to plug them in... guess what? They started right up and NO MORE NOISE !!! Honest to God !! I don't recommend anyone trying this and I don't know if, when I do it again, (like next yr) they'll still work. All I know is, it worked for me... amazing.

ALMOST KILLED US

4/5/2008 - Kit of California, USA writes:

**Warning: If you do use the quadra, unplug it at night or you might not wake up the next morning.** My mother in law bought 2, 1 for her & 1 for my husband & I (he has COPD & is on oxygen.) Hers worked well. OURS ALMOST KILLED US.. We had it for less than 1 month, when 3:30 in the morning it started emitting black noxious smoke. Luckly my husband woke up (having to go to the bathroom) or we both would have been dead. We unplugged it & opened the windows. We both ended up in the emergency room. He ended up in the hospital for a week, I was released that day (but had constant headaches & some dizziness for about a week.) I looked at the quadra 2 days later. When I pulled out the veins there was a thick black tarish residue almost half way up the veins. At the bottom of the veins you could see where the plastic had started to melt. There was still a very strong noxious smell from the unit. By the way I had cleaned the veins 3 days earlier (making sure that the veins were clean & dry before reassembling.) The black tarish residue was from the quadra. You can imagine how much was in the air. Unplug it at night.

Ozone Guard Gimmick

3/28/2008 - Rick of Manitoba, Canada writes:

I bought the Ionic breeze professional with Ozone guard. The PremAir Ozone guard grill is a gimmick. The unit still produces a strong smell of Ozone. It stinks like bleach. Ozone is bad for the lungs of people and pets. You are better off breathing in dust and pollen than Ozone gas. Sharper Image says it puts out “trace” amounts of Ozone, but it builds up in an enclosed room. The smell made me sick after a while. Check out the EPA website concerning Ozone producing “air cleaners” Stick with the time tested HEPA air cleaners. Just change the filters at regular intervals 4

THINK ABOUT IT

1/22/2008 - Jose of New York, USA writes:

I had another air purifier, it worked great had it for years. I paid about 10 to 15 dollars for the fillters ever 2 to 3 months. Then guess what, they didn't make them anymore so although my purefire still worked fine, I couldn't use it because they upgraded and no longer made the filters! Think about it the company was forcing me to buy a new purifier, not giving me a chose. So I finally bought the Ionic, bought it really for one reason and one reason only, the fact that it has no filter. I never have to worry about the company no longer selling the filter and my Ionic B. will work as long as I take care of it. Think about it.

Decent, when it works

1/6/2008 - Tom of Pennsylvania, USA writes:

When it works it's a decent product at removing odors. I had mine in the room where our litter box was for our 3 cats and it did a perfect job at removing odors. My complaints are several. It is very expensive to buy new, I would buy a reconditioned one at half price. Second, it doesn't move the air enough. For comparison an Oreck XL has a fan that moves the air for better cleaning. Lastly, I had two, and they always seem to break just at or around the time the warranty expires. I just gave up on them altogether.

VERY Disapointed

9/17/2007 - Eric of California, USA writes:

I read mixed reviews for this product, but took a chance none the less because i have horrible allergies. After recieving the product, i used it over night, only to wake up to an awful headache! I read that this happend to others, an i hardly ever get headaches, so i knew this demon product was the cause. I also read it eats rubber, so i tested it with a rubberband around it, and sure enough, even just a few days later, it actually started to show wear. Please take it from me, this product is not only junk, it is more harmful then helpful, and on top of it all, it emits a very strong nasty odor. It did collect some dust, but headaches are not worth the trade off. I really had high hopes for this product and was dissapointed i had to return it(I hate returning things). I also expected more from sharper image... not anymore.

Don't be reeled in

8/14/2007 - Jeanie of Florida, USA writes:

When is Sharper Image going to stop making this useless contraption? What is this, the fourth generation of this unit? They just can't seem to make one that works. Their very expensive infomercials must dictate the price of this overhyped piece of junk. I fell for their line and rue the day. If you want to really improve your air quality get a Homedics Brethe unit for far less money and notice the difference. I did.

Works for me & mother(s)

7/2/2007 - Karen of Colorado, USA writes:

Bought two Ionic Breeze Quadras just last month for allergies to my new, dusty environment in the Denver area. For me it worked great. I'm a telecommuter (from home) and taking anti-histimines is really not an option if I want to stay focused on work. I still get itchy when in places in the house where it's far from the filter. This is the 3rd set we've purchesed in the last 4 or 5 years. The first set my husband and I purchased in the hopes of helping my mother-in-law who has emphasema and allergies in a very dry climate. She's a pretty skeptical person and wasn't real happy with the Hepa filters she was using. She does claim that the ionic filter helped quite a bit, and after 5 years she is fastidious about having her day helper keep it cleaned. So with that in mind, after a visit to my mother back east, I got her a set about 2 years ago. She lives with my heavy smoking brother in a fairly small appartment and I found the smell very irritating during the visit. Even though he smokes in a closed room, the first thing you'd notice when walking into the apartment was the haze and smell. Last month I got out there again and there was a significant improvement. Doesn't totally get rid of the smell, but it was much more tolerable and I noticed no haze at all. So after 3 purchases I give this product an almost perfect rating ... it'd be perfect if the smoke smell would go away completely.

Not what it's cracked up to be

5/6/2007 - Brianne of Vermont, USA writes:

Worked well at first but now I can't get them (I have two) to shut up even after THOROUGH cleaning. I even used "canned air" to help blow out the dust, but it still crackles and makes static noise. I have them both just sitting here and not even plugged in. Definitely not worth the small fortune I paid for them.

overpriced piece of plastic

5/4/2007 - Tom of California, USA writes:

bought 2 of these. one stopped working after 3 months even after continuous proper cleaning. the other is constantly making noises even after continous proper cleaning. and the free bathroom filter was garbage after 3 weeks. I had a hepa air purifier previous, cost 2x less and was never a hassle like this. there should be a free lifetime warranty for the price you pay for this product.

Don't waste your money

3/22/2007 - Bianca of Massachusetts, USA writes:

I had my unit for 4 months before returning it to the store. I never noticed any difference in the air quality or how I felt. There was very little dirt on the blades. I ran it on the high setting. The main reason that I got rid of it was I started having headaches every day, I never got headaches before. I stopped using the unit for a couple of weeks and after 3 days of not using it my headaches stopped. I started using it to see if the ionic breeze caused my headaches and I got a headache after 4 hours of putting the breeze back on. My large honeywell air cleaner does a much better job and I could notice a difference in the air and how I felt, even though it is very noisy.

Don't buy

2/3/2007 - James of Tennessee, USA writes:

I own 3 of Ionic Breeze Quadra's. As per [], they give off harmful levels of Ozone. Just got Sharper Image's latest catalog and they don't show the units, even with the attachment that is suppose to turn Ozone back into O2.

Try Reading the directions

1/24/2007 - John of Ohio, USA writes:

WOW I cannot believe how well this works.. The gunk it removes from the air is amazing. Yes it wont trap pet hair. Its not a vacuume. and hair doesnt fly around the house. Yes it does circulate air. Hang a tissue in front of it. My two dogs used to be smelled when you entered my home, now nothing!! I do recomend the ozone removing attachment too. Yes it needs the plates rinsed and the unit inverted to clean the wires in the base. Where do you think the dirt goes? Anyways I have 2 now and would buy more if needed.

Works great!

1/19/2007 - Wes of California, USA writes:

I have 2 of these, they work great, sure its a pain to clean, but if cleaned regularly they cut down on dander and dust a great deal. ( I know this from turning them off when I went on vacation) As far as the black dust, its the normal dust that gets a little cooked when it collects to the plates. There is no motor, but static attraction pulls in the dust.

We *had* 7 of these

12/4/2006 - Lisa of Texas, USA writes:

When we found out that these units emitted unsafe levels of ground level ozone, we'd found the answer to some serious health issues in our house! Coughing and stuffiness are symptoms of ground level ozone poisoning. We contacted the company who did give us a credit for all seven units (not including the cost of shipping back) and we rely on Consumer Reports to keep abreast of information on their new models which still fail to reduce the unsafe levels of ground level ozone they produce. Not worth the money, not worth risking our health.

Don't be fooled.

11/1/2006 - Jeff of California, USA writes:

This product is dangerous, inconvenient, and overpriced. I wasted nearly $400 on a product that didn't perform as advertised and developed a highly annoying buzz when it was operating. The product creates ozone which is a harmful substance to breathe. The collector plates are nearly impossible to clean especially in the grooves where you can't reach with a washcloth. The price is more than what you would pay for a proper HEPA air cleaner. It's just some metal, plastic, a timer and an electrical source. Finally, "Consumer Reports" gave this product a terrible rating.

Extremely Happy with Ionic Breeze Quadra

10/31/2006 - Carol of North Carolina, USA writes:

With 2 large dogs and a son with allergies, I tried a lot of other products that did nothing. With the Ionic Breeze Quadra, the allergies literally disappeared and the house smelled so fresh! I clean it once a week or more often if I burn candles or use the fireplace. When I hear it buzz or pop, I know its time to clean it. When I see the black gunk on the blades, I know it didnt go into my lungs and its doing its job. It is very quiet and energy efficient. Customer service is top of the line. They replaced one free of charge when I broke it due to improper cleaning. (I put a feather duster in it to clean off the wires and it got caught and the wire broke.) Now I know to turn the unit upside down to let the bead run along the wire to clean it properly. I love it!

This product does not do what it says. It only takes the air in but does not blow it out! Not worth the money one bit!I think I will try an oreck.

Can't Imagine Life Without Ionic Breeze

8/13/2006 - Anonymous of Colorado, USA writes:

I've used Ionic Breezes for 5 years. I first asked for the Ionic Breeze (IB) for a birthday present. At the time I lived in a house build in the early 1900's that was drafty dusty and my roommate smoked continuously. Prior to getting the IB I would dust and within an hour it looked as if the house hadn't been cleaned in months - after turning on the IB the house stayed virtually dust free for approximately two weeks. I can't say enough about how well the IB reduced the nasty smoke smell in the room and pet oders disappeared as well. I ordered two more! I used the bathroom IBs as well. The only thing that I would do now is upgrade!
