Great Product!

5/7/2007 - Shelton of Tennessee, USA writes:

Being a hunter and fisherman, sometimes I bring home large quantities of meat. This device gives me fresh meat without freezer burn for long periods of time. I'm still eating buffalo that is over 2 years old, and it's still good. Before, fish was deteriating in about 3 months. Now I can easily get a year out of them. Make sure you have a complete vacuum though. Sometimes you don't get a perfect closure. Also works great for camping. No more water logged foods, or bloody water. I even crack my eggs and put them in for the amount per serving. Three egg omelet? Corn bread? etc... No problem. Just mix before you leave, seal it up, toss in the cooler with ice, and enjoy when you want. A permanent marker works well with identifying the contents too! I wish I had one 30 years ago!

Pays for Itself

4/15/2007 - John of New York, USA writes:

Originally purchased the model with the separate cutter for my vacation home. Liked it so much I later purchased the model with the integrated roll-holder and cutter for my home but I actually prefer the earlier model. First "gimick" product I have liked. Fileted some fluke that I caught. Pan fried one right away and vacuum-sealed and froze the balance. Never before did frozen fish feel and taste so fresh weeks after being frozen. Bags are a little pricey but when you balance the price against the cost of food saved you realize that it is cheap. You can save money by cutting the bags about 6" longer than required and then washing and reusing them. slightly pre-freeze anything juicy so that the vacuum doesn't inhale it. If you buy steaks, hammburger, fish etc. in bulk this is the product for you. I may sound like an infomercial but everyone who bought it on my recommendation use and love it.

use it constantly

4/12/2007 - Carol of California, USA writes:

This is one appliance I wouldn't do without. I use it all the time to freeze leftovers. The thing to be very careful about is to freeze the food beforehand so the liquids don't get sucked into the motor. Glad I pushed through the resistance to doing this...could have just said, not very handy. You can occasionally find off brand rolls of plastic...they worked okay for me. The quart jar that came with my set really hasn't performed well...seems to leak air. Don't even use it, and when I did, it was for coffee beans.

Works great when it works.

12/11/2006 - Tami of Georgia, USA writes:

When it works, it's great. Do have problems with leaking. Best to freeze the meats first, otherwise the blood seeps into the machine. (dangerous) Best product they have is the little gun one with the wine adapter. Open a bottle of wine and seal what's left. Just like a new bottle of wine the next time! This product works great with the canisters with soups, etc.

Fantastic Product

12/10/2006 - Dean of Missouri, USA writes:

Got ours a year ago. Use it weekly or more. Do typical large buys of meat & vacpack. In summer vacpacked a winter's worth of some farm fresh veggies. Also do vats of favorite soups and chili (pre-freeze, then vacpack). Same with stuffed green peppers (make at least a dozen at a time). Take most anything already cooked from freezer and heat for meals via microwave or "boil in bag." Have vacpacked winter emergency kit in our cars.

Freshest food

2/2/2006 - Janet of Maryland, USA writes:

Excellent product. Frozen food fresh as just purchased - especially chicken. We also freeze avocados, etc. I had a problem with several canisters I bought at [] but Tilia replaced all of them for free (including free shipping). Curteous, fast customer service. The newer models have some features that make it more convenient. can get bags on sale or with coupons at many known stores.

Love Food Saver

2/1/2006 - Jenny of Michigan, USA writes:

One of the best things I ever bought. Keeps food in freezer for a long long time. Fresh produce keeps for2 to 3 weeks longer then in regular plastic bags. Be sure and get the canning jar attachment. I put produce in jars and seal. Use jars & lids over and over. Saves a lot of $ over using Food Saver's canisters.

Works As Avertised, And Then Some

1/9/2006 - Mark of Arizona, USA writes:

I have had two different models of Food Savers...bought first one in 1998..and recently upgraded to the model that has the cutter built in. They both have performed flawlessly and fall into that category of "how did I live before there was a Food Saver?" The best example of how well it works is that I have placed Romane Lettuce in a canister, sealed it..and forgotten about it, and 3 weeks later saw it in the back of the garage refrig...opened it and they were STILL fresh! I also use it a lot to reseal bread, chips, and basically anything in a bag...still have a bag of potatoe chips from 2 months ago. There are techniques to keep it from crushing things, but once you get the hang of it...it pays for itself over time. Highly recommend the Food Saver!

Excellent!!

12/4/2005 - Vicki of California, USA writes:

Definitely as advertized! It's been a real money-saver for me! I buy large quantities of meat on sale and bag it in usable quantities. I generally freeze it uncooked, but sometimes cooked for fast meals. An initial problem was blood from hamburger being drawn into the vacuum. Tilia's suggestion to freeze the meat first and then seal it solved this concern. Freezer-burn or having to discard meat that I missed in the freezer is never a concern if I have packaged it with the Food Saver. I buy blocks of cheese and seal it in usable quantities - never any mold. Sealing pantry items that I don't use frequently preserves their freshness way beyond expiration dates and eliminates insect problems. My brother-in-law is a lobster fisherman, and my sister uses the Food Saver to seal the lobster tails before freezing. A real "Best Buy"!

This is a good product

11/30/2005 - JJ of California, USA writes:

I have one of the original ones, sold with the canisters. From day one, I found it seals the bag before all of the air is out, more than half of the time. Sometimes, the cord around the heating element falls out and I have to push it back in to use it. I may have just bought a faulty unit, but at the time, I had no comparison and didn't want to give up on it because I loved it when it worked properly. They've come up with new models and I'm always tempted to upgrade, but I'm gonna use this one until it's dead and gone, then immediatly run out and buy verion XXII, or whatever model they're up to.

Worth the $$

8/21/2005 - Sherril of Texas, USA writes:

We had leftover salad - sealed it in a mason jar and TWO WEEKS later there was NO sigh of wilting! WOW! It is also great for block cheese - no mildrew at all! Bags are rather expensive, but cut them extra large and you can use them over and over.  Use the mason jars for anything "squishable". Don't even TRY to seal anything with liquid in a bag. (We also bought bags off of an internet auction - you know which one- so they were less expensive than the store). Followed the directions to freeze strawberries (freeze them first - then put in vacuume bag) but it didn't work too well. Strawberries were a loss due to extra air that wasn't totally sucked out in between the berries.  Next year will put them in jars. Bags are great for leftover turkey, chicken, etc and for all meats.  We've even sealed non-food items to make them waterproof. Overall, this is a WONDERFUL product - strong suction and used correctly WILL save you $$.  Buy a case of mason jars and you'll use this A LOT!  (Think jar mixes for Christmas presents!)

Great Product

8/2/2005 - Rick of Illinois, USA writes:

I have a Costco nearby and buy in bulk which is why I bought the FoodSaver. I have used this product at home for several years now. This product works extremely well in vaccuum sealing food products (mostly meats, poultry and fish). The vacuum bags are expensive, but I typically re-use them over and over again until they get too small to reseal. The package I got included vacuum canisters which work equally as well to preserved things that would get crushed in the bags. You can also vacuum seal things in wide mouth mason jars (I store bulk spices and dry herbs for months this way). It can also seal other plastic bags (not under vacuum), like frozen vegetables, potato chips and cereal which helps preserve their freshness. I once bought a cheaper model from another company before buying the FoodSaver, and it didn't have anywhere near the vacuum power this system has. I do advise keeping the FoodSaver on your countertop or you may not use it as often. Highly recommended.
