Not for older skin

6/6/2008 - Lisa of CA, USA writes:

I love the idea of this product, but it is NOT for older skin or for anyone who is active, works outside, goes to the gym. it does go on light, but after an hour or so (or worse after an entire day), look at your skin up close and you will be shocked! even if you apply lightly, within a few hours, it will get cakey and look horrible. (ladies, put on those biofocals or look at yourself really close in the mirror to see what it really looks like). Don't get it anywhere near your eyes, will highlight wrinkles (again it looks fine when you first put it on, but wait a while and look at your face up close). You cannot work out in it, if you sweat it will cake (like many foundations) and don't sleep in it, it WILL come off on pillowcase (who would sleep in makeup anyway, lol). Very messy, have to clean my sink every time I use it. The warmth was a waste, way too dark/orange for my fair skin even though company says it's for everyone. My skin itches like crazy and after reading the other comments, I now know why. I admit I like how it goes on, but it doesn't cover at all like the infomercial or give that "finished" look.

Worth a try

5/30/2008 - Christine of Kentucky, USA writes:

I bought Bare Minerals a few months ago, hoping that it would help even out my skin tone because I'm prone to redness in my cheeks. When I got the product I watched the instructional DVD and tried putting the makeup on while I did. I don't know if I was expecting too much and that's why I felt let down, but I can honestly say it didn't even out my skintone at all. It did feel sheer and light though, so much so that I kept forgetting I had any on. After a week of trying it out I noticed my skin was getting irritated. I kept at it for another week and was not satisfied, so I called and canceled my membership. When the sales rep asked for a reason I told her that the makeup irritated my skin. She suggested it may be the animal hair brushes and offered to send me a synthetic brush for free. I agreed but canceled my membership anyway, knowing I could renew if the new brush turned out great. Well, the new brush did work in terms of not irritating my skin but the makeup itself didn't cover any better than before. I ended up giving the makeup to my sister and she loves it. Just recently my credit card was charged for another shipment of the foundation, even though I canceled my membership. I just called to inquire about the charge and the customer service rep was extremely kind and helpful. She saw that the shipment and charge were made in error, so she processed a credit for the full amount they charged me and said I could keep the foundation when it arrived at no charge. I'm going to keep it and give it to my sister. Overall I would say the product was worth trying. Atleast someone (my sister) got some use out of it!

It matches!

5/21/2008 - Emily of Mississippi, USA writes:

I've *never* been able to find makeup that matches my skin tone, because I'm very, very pale, but not pink-toned. Fairly Light foundation actually blends in, and now that I've tried a few eye, cheek, and lip colors as well, I'm so thrilled to find that they're so sheer that I don't look like I caked myself in clown makeup, which has been a problem with most other brands. I'm particularly loving the pure radiance powder, which gives a lovely subtle shimmer to my skin that really looks like no makeup at all. I really don't think I'll ever wear regular makeup again.

Great

5/19/2008 - Andrea of il, united states writes:

I love love love BM. I do not like to wear make up because I feel alot of make-up is too thick and looks fake. BM is light and looks so natural. I got so many freckles and spots when I was prenant and BM covers it up perfectly. I love it.

Update

5/16/2008 - Sonya of Ohio, USA writes:

UPDATE: I really loved BM and the way it looked but I had to stop using it after a month. I started to REALLY break out:( I was really disappointed because I loved it. I did some research online and found a similar product that does not contain bismuth. Its fantastic and solved the problem. I have friends that use BM and not everyone breaks out. Personally I think its worth the try.

Works so will on this old skin

5/14/2008 - Melody of california, usa writes:

For me it works great. doesn't rub off on hands or clothes, although when putting on the dust will land on what your wearing. It's a must to put the concealer on first. It's a little pricey but last a while. Have used it on my legs when I need to cover some old veins. Also used it on my granddaughter to blend where there was a tan line. It is a good idea to have a professional teach you.

not a good experience :(

5/12/2008 - K of NJ, United States writes:

I've been using Bare Minerals since I got it on Christmas, and I was really excited since it was all natural and you could sleep with it on and blah blah blah. Well first of all I felt like I had a lot of makeup on and it didn't feel light and natural. The past few months I had been breaking out worse than I ever had, and I just kept covering it up with the makeup, thinking it was just PMS or something. After reading these reviews, I feel so dumb that I didn't realize Bare Minerals was THE REASON I was breaking out!! I threw it all out (I didn't have much left anyway) and my face noticeably cleared up right away (so noticeable that my roommates tell my my face looks so much better). There's no doubt that bare minerals was making me breakout when I hadn't really ever before. Mostly it was on my chin and my forehead. So yea, from my personal experience, this is definitely not the makeup product for me and I wouldn't recommend it.

Give it time

5/10/2008 - Sandra of Virginia, USA writes:

I tried this product 3 years ago and was miserable. I felt it did not cover well and took forever to apply. I was able to return it easily for a refund, but then decided to try it again after a year of struggling with my make-up I'd used since a teenager. I knew of others who loved it, so I took my time and gave it a good 2 week trial. Now I love it! It takes some getting used to application-wise, but I can do it just as fast as the liquid and compact powder I had used before. I'm also a girly girl who likes using the brushes. It's easy to play with and find the amount you need, butI have yet to need more of the warmth or glow (1+ years). I had redness around the nose that is now gone! I tried to use my old again to see if I noticed a difference coverage-wise and my face burned as if sunburned. Take your time to get to know the product and you won't be disappointed.

Nice, but worth it?

4/30/2008 - Leslie of Michigan, United States writes:

I have been using bare minerals for probably around 3 years now. And I like it because I don't feel like I have make-up caked into my skin. I have had problems with acne since I was younger so I thought this would be better for my skin. It does feel really light and it's really easy to put on. What I don't like, is the fact that it doesn't seem to last all day. I look fine when I leave my house in the morning, but it wears off during the day. It is expensive and I just found a store in my area that sells it for a lot cheaper than you get it through the mail. So I will probably buy it there to save more than 1/2 the money.

The good, the bad and the ugly

4/30/2008 - Marj of CA, USA writes:

I loved the idea of using something natural and good for your skin so I was really excited to try this product. While the coverage was great and long lasting, it definitely caused major cystic acne breakouts and itching. After further research, I discovered the cause: Bare Minerals uses bismuth oxychloride. After switching to another mineral brand without bismuth, I haven't had any problems. I do have to praise their Mineral Veil (which does not have bismuth). This is my holy grail finishing powder. It really does give you an airbrushed look. The cost of this BE is also a bit much compared to other mineral products. Save your money and your skin and check out some other mineral brands. You will find that many even offer free or next to free samples.

Love This Product

4/27/2008 - Debbie of FL, USA writes:

I hate makeup and I know I need it. I ordered this product and fell in love. My skin is even and it feels natural. My husband tells me all the time "I hope you never ware makeup your skin is perfect". If he only knew, lol. I'm not telling him. I will be 49 this year and this is the best. I have tried many products and I will never change from Bare Minerals.

Use Caution

4/22/2008 - Deb of oregon, usa writes:

I bought the whole line of Bare Minerals after a wonderful sales job by the girl at the store. However, I had some itching and redness using the foundation powder. Now I just juse it lightly for spot coverage. The Mineral Veil works well as a light dusting powder. Please start with one or two products and see if you like them - don't get sold the whole store!

Infomercial Queen

4/21/2008 - Jerdine of CA, USA writes:

Well I had a few friends try this product and their results looked phenomenal, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I went to the store and had them color match me, as it is difficult on the infomercial to tell which shade would work the best. I had an in store make over, and I remember it feeling itchy at the time, but shrugged it off. The results didn't seem that bad, but definitely didn't look as great as I had anticipated. I bought the beginner set w/ the mineral veil and figured I would practice at home to achieve the flawless look they advertised. After several attempts at using it, the itchiness was no longer a minor issue, but had progressed to a burning irritable rash. I promptly returned everything to the store. With a visit to my dermatologist, the rash cleared up. I can only say this product was a disappointment and did not work for me. I do have sensitive skin, so I am not sure if this was a factor in its failure to deliver. However, I would recommend going into a store as opposed to buying online to get the correct shade.

I've tried several mineral powder foundations and I love this the best! I bought the kit from a salon so I got brushes included. Well worth it! I'm almost out of my 2nd pack and will be going back for more!

You'll love it if you use it correctly.

4/18/2008 - Rima of CA, USA writes:

Hey, for all of you that don't like this product as much as you thought you would, try using less. MUCH LESS. The way I apply the base is; I apply my moisturizer, then the BareVitamins, then my "mat lotion" (to handle shine). Let these soak in and dry up a few minutes. Then using a SLIGHTLY loaded brush, lightly apply (don't rub, you'll get itchy/burny) onto only the areas of your face that stand out red or uneven. Then use the small concealer brush on areas that still stand out (like under the eyes, creases in nose, blemishes, etc. Then using the main brush again, with just a bit more make up added, feather the entire face, jaw line, and down the neck a bit. You can always apply more if need be. I realized less is better when my sister and I were next to each other in the mirror with sunlight shining into my bathroom. We both use this product, and one of us had WAY too much on. I usually skip the veil part during the day, but use it for evenings that I'm really dolling up.

Not all minerals are safe!

4/16/2008 - Laura of Maine, USA writes:

I bought this makeup thinking that it would help with my sometime acne-prone skin. I used it for 1 month. I didn't really love the way it looked, and it took a lot of makeup to cover any blemishes. About 3 weeks into using the makeup, my face began to breakout. At exactly 1 month, I came across other reviews of this makeup and the fact that it contains bismuth oxychloride. Well, I did more research and found out that bismuth oxychloride is a by-product of lead and copper refining! Also, it causes cystict acne in many people---including myself. I have now discontinued using Bare Minerals for 2 days, and my face still looks horrible, but I am not experiencing any new cystic pimples and the pimples that are on my face are drying up and going away. Please DON'T use this makeup if your face is acne-prone.

disappointed

4/16/2008 - Renee of Pa, usa writes:

I loved this product at first and recommeded it to everyone else I know. After a month of wearing it, I started to breakout on the chin and around the lips. I didn't even keep the box to return it because I loved it so much at first and was planning on buying more. Too bad.

Not a Fan

4/15/2008 - Tami of Ohio, USA writes:

I am not a fan of Bare Minerals foundation. I gave it a try but I will have to return it for a refund because $60 is just too much money for a product that I'll rarely use. The foundation looks translucent and sparkly on my face and does not even out my complexion. It's just too sheer. I have a pretty decent complexion to begin with, but I do need more coverage than Bare Minerals gives me. Plus, three hours after applying, I noticed in the mirror that I had only blotchy spots of makeup remaining. My cheeks were pretty much bare, like I had not put any makeup on at all. So, this product is not baby-proof, or toddler-proof in the least. This product would work best for someone who doesn't want a lot of coverage. And it does go on quickly and easily, so there are some folks out there that it's probably perfect for. As for me- I'll just return to my old foundation that I am fond of.

Bare Minerals

4/15/2008 - Beverly of Virginia, USA writes:

I use this product mainly during summer when I don't want a heavy makeup sweating off my face. It's light and cool. During the remainder of the year, I alternate between this and liquid makeups. The lotion used before applying Bare Minerals has a drying effect (which tends to show more lines/wrinkles), but a night moisturizer helps this.
